Tensas Academy’s Varsity Lady Chiefs closed out their season with pride after a strong postseason run that showcased their determination and growth.
Entering the MAIS South State Tournament at Riverdale Academy as the No. 2 seed in their district, the girls fought through a demanding bracket and earned a third place finish, securing their spot in the MAIS State Tournament in Columbus, Miss.
The Lady Chiefs opened South State with a win over UCA, followed by a statement victory against Woodlawn that punched their ticket to State.
After a tough, emotional loss to Claiborne, the team showed true resilience, regrouping to defeat Briarfield and claim the tournament’s third-place spot.
Two players — Jolie Rushing and Kennedi Williams — were named to the South State All-Tournament Team for their standout performances.
At the State Tournament on Feb. 10, Tensas Academy faced No. 2-ranked Marvell Academy, battling hard before ultimately falling to the powerhouse program.
Coach Beth Nettles praised her team’s fight and unity throughout the postseason.
“Our Lady Chiefs battled through every whistle,” she said. “These girls showed true resilience, and we are so proud of this team.”
With grit, heart and a postseason run to remember, the Lady Chiefs closed their year having set a high standard for seasons to come.
